Any social workers or safeguarding experts about?
I am wondering is safeguarding referrals are done on a local/ regional or a national footprint. Does anybody know?

Referrals will go to the local team

They are generally managed by the local authority where the child lives. If a child lives with two parents in different local authorities it could be worked jointly or if the issue is with one parent then their local authority would take the lead.

Thank you both I appreciate the responses.
i should perhaps clarify it’s not in relation to myself but someone else who is now living somewhere else. It’s concerning access to a course and I am anxious the enquiries will not uncover the extent of the safeguarding history.

If it's for something like a social work course they're expected to declare any previous involvement but it's self disclosure. Any convictions will show on the enhanced DBS. This may also include information not related to convictions but which the police have deemed relevant. Universities have safeguarding teams that you could speak to.

If the course will give them potential access to vulnerable people and or children then suitability checks will be done and the person would be expected to disclose any allegations or social services involvement. I don't quite understand the situation but if you are genuinely worried that a person is a risk then phone your local mash team for advice.
