Wedding supplier

Hi all

I was wondering if anyone could help me. We got married a couple of weeks ago and paid for a light up dancefloor. The evening started at 7pm and it stopped working approximately 8.20pm, before our first dance took place.

The supplier has told me that the next day, they found that the lead had been punctured, he assumed by one of our guests and that he will not be refunding our money. My argument is that we did not get what we had paid for, and that if a dancefloor can be this easily damaged, then it must have already been faulty or not laid properly. A dancefloor should be able to be danced on without it being damaged!!

The supplier is being really difficult but I have no idea if I’m being unreasonable or not? There’s nothing in the contract about damage or anything, or that certain shoe types shouldn’t be worn.

How much did you pay?

How did you pay?

There's not really much they could do if your guest damaged it. I'd let it go. If you persue it you risk being charged for the damage.

You paid for a service you did not get. You should get a full refund. The supplier can't pursue you for the cost of the alleged damage without proof. The supplier "assumes" it was one of your guests. That is not proof.

well it depends - accidental damage should not have been possible

Take to small claims court

mitogoshi · 24/08/2024 07:06

I would be asking for 50% back (still had a dance floor) and see what happens

Candaceowens · 24/08/2024 07:16

Have you asked why there was a wire left exposed?

Bingbong9009 · 24/08/2024 14:06

Hi all, sorry I don’t seem to be notified when people responded to the thread!

I’ve asked how it was possible that it’s been damaged, it should be covered etc and it doesn’t get responded to, just a whole load of I’m really sorry this happened.

The dancefloor was £750 and I paid bank transfer. I’d be happy with half back, as we did have a dancefloor but it all just feels a bit sour if I’m honest!

If you’d paid by credit card you’d have more comeback, you could try talking to your bank as you didn’t receive the service you paid for and see if you’re covered but I think if you paid directly you’re probably not.

Did you receive any H&S documents/RAMS about the safe installation of the dance floor and how it should be used? Does the company have PLI?

If it was so easily damaged I’d assume it wasn’t really safe, any leads should’ve been taped down/covered and not exposed for guests to get anywhere near, the suggestion it’s been damaged by a guest ‘puncturing’ a lead sounds unsafe and shouldn’t even be possible.

Did you find the hire company independently or were they a preferred supplier from your venue?

Bingbong9009 · 24/08/2024 14:14

I don’t even know how to go about asking - I’ve told him I’ve wanted a refund but he doesn’t answer! I will go back to him and say about receiving half back.

They were a recommended supplier from the venue which annoys me even more, but they’ve not been particularly helpful.

We didn’t receive any documentation, only a contract regarding the payment and when the final balance was due etc. nothing about the actual dancefloor, do’s and dont’s. I will do a quick google but they are a registered company etc.

Dont go back when he hasnt responded, negotiating already.

Ask for all back, threaten small claims, and when he comes back, you can if you wish, settle for half

Bingbong9009 · 24/08/2024 15:36

Ok thank you I will wait for his response. Do you think it’s worth requesting the proof of the so called puncture? Or leave it?
