Buying two properties at once.

Hello lovely legal people, I need your help please.

I've seen a property I want to view that is currently two houses and subject to two lots of council tax. It would only take one door to be reinstated to turn it back into one properly. Which I would be doing asap if I bought it.

How does stamp duty work in this situation? Would one properly be classed as a second home?

Thank you for your help.

Do you need a mortgage on 1 or both?

If they are from the same seller I think the stamp duty is complex and can be combined.
Friend had to put 1 in his name- mortgaged and 1 in his wife's name- bought in cash

A bit old

I'm hoping I can port my current mortgage because the value for both is about the same as my current house @WestminsterWanderer

Thanks for the link.

Thanks for the link.

You need to check with them
I recently couldn't port a NatWest Mortgage to 2 properties (not linked)

Would you get planning permission to convert back to one house? Planners don't tend to like reducing housing stock...

I think I may get in touch with planning. How the property is currently configured its not likely they will sell separately, access and the garden really only work for one combined property or someone using one as a granny annex.

Thank you for the advice.
