Hello,
This is my 1st ever post so hopefully I’ve got it right!

Recently divorced and I’m desperate to change my name back to my birth name. Our jointly owned home is being put on the market and I will be purchasing a new property on my own.

This house is in my married name. Should i change my name now and then I’m guessing will have to change my ID etc so I can prove who I am or should I wait until I’ve purchased my new home? We have a financial order etc but that’s all in my married name.

New home will be bought outright so no mortgage or charges to consider etc.

Marriage and divorce have been horrible and there was DV, so I really want to revert to my birth name.

What would you do?
Thanks ☺️

Have you got the Decree Absolute, or whatever it's called these days, in your divorce?

If so, I think that is sufficient to support reverting to your maiden name.

A quick search produced this guide.

I'd expect any decent conveyancer to be clued up on this stuff and what's needed to support transactions in money or real property.

I have and thank you. Next stop, decent conveyancer. Hopefully not too hard to find.

When I changed my name with the bank on marriage they kept my maiden name on the account too. Could you check if this is the case with you?

Is it worth speaking to your conveyancer/bank about any problems this country cause?

Also presumably your id (passport and driver's licence) will still be in your married name so just use those and renew when everything is completed but change your name before hand.
