Redeployment

Hi, wondering if anyone has any knowledge of this. Was taking to my brother on the phone yesterday and they are currently looking for a redeployment role for him due to him having problems in current dept. He’s been with the NHS approx 2.5 years. If a role isn’t found, does he get a settlement ie redundancy?

What kind of role is it? I would imagine they will find him a role somewhere - even if it's not somewhere he would pick himself

If there's no suitable alternative roles for him and he is made redundant, he's entitled to a redundancy payment as he has over 2 years service. He should check the NHS policies for whether that would be statutory redundancy pay or enhanced pay.

Redundancy only applies if the role your brother is in no longer exists, if the job is still there but he can't/won't do it then he won't get redundancy money (although it's not unheard of for NHS organizations to do a little jiggery-pokery to make roles for 'problem' individuals disappear from the structure so as to be able to pay them redundancy and part ways on good terms). What they can't/won't do outside of extremely exceptional situation is pay a settlement agreement in exchange for a resignation, this is common practice in the private sector but very very difficult in the public sector (rightly so as it's tax payers money). What will actually happen if he isn't offered a redeployment role depends a bit on the nature of the 'problems' so hard to answer without further details really...
