Protecting CICA and Compensation money - Trusts?

My daughter is going to be awarded a large amount of money from CICA and is being compensated by the police for their failings in handling her case. It was very serious with long term ramifications for her.

She is currently on UC and will be for a while yet as she accesses services to help her recovery.

I would like to know how I can protect this money for her and for this windfall not to disentitle her to her benefits. Is it a trust I need to do for her and how do I go about that? It seems unfair that she would lose everything and this amount of money could be used further down the line to help her with a home.

Is your daughter able to manage her own affairs ie not subject to deputyship in the Court of Protection?

It's certainly to put CICA awards into trust in the same way as other damages. Not something to be contemplated on a DIY basis though.

Is there a solicitor acting for her in the CICA matter? If so can they help.

Otherwise it's recommendations, the Law Society or perhaps STEP

See a solicitor about setting up a Personal Injury Trust.

With regard to acting on her own behalf, I am her appointee for matters related to benefits. She does want her Father and I to administer whatever comes in but she is scared she's walking into a minefield with this as it will be a very large amount.
