Made redundant but no process followed

Hello

looking for advice. I started a new role in October and was promoted in January.

I recently took two weeks holiday and on the last day, my boss called me to tell me my role was being made redundant. No issue with performance, it’s just that the company is losing money and it was a ‘last one in’ situation.

My employer wrote to me stating I was in a one week consulting period but didn’t make any proper effort to find alternative employment and basically made it clear it was just a formality.

I know that as an employee with under 2 years service, I don’t have many rights but if they’ve said it’s a redundancy with a consultancy period, they should have followed the rules around redundancy?

I don’t know if it’s worth making a point of this but it seems very unfair

They shouldn’t have given you the impression that you were being included in formal redundancy conversations and processes when you weren’t, but legally there’s nothing to pursue or make a point of: I suspect this is one of those cases where they simply intended to make it kinder by letting you know that your dismissal isn’t to do with your performance but the need for your role no longer existing and that they’d consider you for alternative roles if they had any to offer. By all means give your feelings as exit feedback, though - and see if you can use your position to fix more than just a standard reference.

Was it just your role being made redundant?
