In solicitor parlance what does 'in the next coming weeks' mean?

When asking when our buyers would hear back on something, their solicitor used the phrase 'In the next coming weeks' which seems very vague. What does this mean? It seems to imply weeks but wondering if weeks could add up to months...

In a few weeks 😒

They've no real idea, possibly because they're waiting for information themselves from other parties such as lenders or, if there is a chain, other peoples sale/purchase.

It means "it'll probably be soon but there is no way I'm going to make a promise I can be held to, just in case"

cwmble · 14/05/2024 17:36

Ah well it's obviously meant to be vague . Frustrating!

When I can be arsed.

You have it in one

“More than a week less than 5, but if it’s longer than 5 don’t blame me”

I wouldn't regard this as solicitor-speak. It means some indeterminate time in the near future. If you look online, you will find plenty of examples of people using this phrase or similar. In context, it sounds like your buyers are waiting for some answers but whoever is providing the answers hasn't given any indication as to when they will do so.

Solicitor here, but Big Law. I'd say it to mean 3-4 weeks but also that I CBA and was not chasing it because it wasn't a priority and it'll happen when it happens

So hound them instead and make them care!

Moveoverdarlin · 14/05/2024 19:13

It means they don’t know and aren’t committing to a date. It won’t be days and it won’t be months. It’ll be weeks.

cwmble · 14/05/2024 20:57

I think general consensus it is weeks.. 3-4 or as pointed out would have said months and hopefully no can't be arsed stuff going on !
