Child entertainment licence

My 14 year old is in a band. They have got to the stage where they get gigs most weekends (paid). I have been told that they might need a licence to entertain due to their age but I can only find one that is specific to a venue or event. He plays at different venues all of the time so this isn't suitable.

Does anyone know what licence or permit he need please?

Check with your child employment department with your local authority. Every authority has one.

@TheHomeEdit that's what I saw but we can't apply for a new license for every gig, its not possible. Some are very short notice, some weeks more than 1 venue.

@Littleleopardlady I didn't know that, I'll look them up thanks.

I had heard that there was a general permit for child entertainers/actors.

Child employment will also be able to guide you about chaperone requirements- you can supervise your own child, but if one parent is supervising all the band they will need to be licensed chaperones - this isn’t difficult just another hoop you need to fulfill.

Most councils got rid of blanket licences. I have to admit (I had two performing children) that it never occurred to me that a young band would need to be licensed. In my area a lot of venues won’t book bands with minors in (but my son’s band had a 15 year old support artist )

as well as a licence they will also need chaperones (I used to be one)

Local authority provides child in entertainment license where I am.
