Does anyone know what it costs to get transcripts printed from a court case?

Like specific sections of testimony. I'm interested in a 4.5hr interrogation, which I imagine will be pages and pages long.

I’m a Coroner’s Officer and we occasionally obtain transcripts of evidence given in criminal trials. Four and a half hours worth of evidence won’t be cheap. You’re likely looking at over five hundred quid at least.

Thank you!

Do you know the best way to go about it?

You’ll need to make contact with the relevant court in the first instance as they will need to provide the audio recording to the transcribers. Transcribers are court appointed.

It will be expensive -

You need to fill out Form 107 and then send it to the appropriate court. They usually have an address for transcript requests but if you're not sure you can try contacting the judges clerk to see if they can help. If you can tell us which court I might be able to help you find it.

The court will then send the recordings to your chosen transcription agency who will give you a estimated quote before they do the work - they usually expect you to pay upfront. Sometimes they may ask for a usually small balancing payment at the end.

This is an receipt extract from transcript we had done about a year ago. A folio for these purposes is 72 words (don't ask me why but it is!!)

The transcription people will then send it back to the court to be approved by the judge and returned to them before releasing it to you. It can take quite some time I'm afraid.

sorry just realised it didn't come up properly

figure on left is number of folios and the £1.44 is cost per folio

In the criminal courts, you need the consent of the Judge. I’m not sure what the rules are on when he / she will give consent.

The EX107 form I linked to has a part E - when the application is made the court has to confirm that the judge has given consent so it's all part of the same process. I've only ever had to do this with civil courts but its the same form for both you just have to tick all the right boxes!!
