Husband to be and parental responsibility for my son

Hello,

I am due to get married in October.

My partner and I share our daughter who is 2.5 but I also have a 12 year old son.

My son doesn't see his biological father, never has met him. He's not on the birth certificate either but not sure that matters.

When we marry, we'd like for my partner to have parental responsibility so that if anything happened to me, then he could have that there as an option (I'm thinking if I were to ever say get in a car crash and couldn't consent to medical things for my son etc?) far fetched I know.

We didn't really want to go down the adoption route; we've not really discussed it but my son is nearly a teenager and although he and my partner have a very close bond, I just don't think it would sit right with him.

Does anyone know what I would need to do to give my partner (or husband) parental responsibility for my son?

Thank you. X

At his age, it’s his decision. Do you have a relationship with any of your DSs family? If not, your DH would be treated as a parent should anything happen to you.
make sure you have a will that protects your DS financially though’

Complete a step PArent Parental REsponsibility Form C(PRA2).

As the biological father s=doesn't have PR it's just you who needs to sign complete it.

You can find the form here: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/65cb741e73806a000cec7776/C_PRA2__0224.pdf

This explains what you have to do - essentially you both go to your local court to sign it. https://www.gov.uk/parental-rights-responsibilities/apply-for-parental-responsibility

Yes we've already spoken to him. If anything was to happen to me he would want to stay with my partner and his sister.

No, zero contact and I don't even think the family knows about my son unfortunately.
