I’m panicking!

last month we we received a speeding fine- notice of intended prosecution thing. We share the car and we both agreed that dh would have been driving it at the time if the offence. We sent the paperwork back and we d since paid the fine with dh getting 3 points on his licence.

yesterday we realised that dh COULDN’T have been the driver and that it was me!!!

do we call the police and explain, or would you just leave it??

Doing dh’s expenses claims and realising that he couldn’t have been driving on that date!! I have zero points

But the case is closed. How are you going to get in trouble?

Not sure- I know in catastrophising. I don’t want to end up being accused of perverting justice

I would own up. Call the dvla and say you thought it was him but having done DH’s expenses realised it was you so want to put record straight. It was a genuine mistake and it’s obv you were not evading a driving ban or anything. It must happen all the time. The worry will eat away at you if you don’t.

I would want to follow this up and own up

Walk away from this question. No one knows or cares, keep the paperwork in case some freak act of god makes someone check this

Stop. Why on earth would they ever waste funds looking at this. Seriously, it’s fine.

Mistakes happen and you haven't done this deliberately or with the intention to deceive anyone. That being the case, you're not going to get done for perverting the course of justice. I would contact the fixed penalty unit, tell them exactly what you've told us and they will advise you. It might mean a trip to court to set the record straight, but the court will also understand that mistakes happen. If you sit quietly on this - now in the knowledge that it is incorrect - that could land you in serious trouble.

Unless you are Mrs Sunak, or the Queen, it's very unlikely that anyone will think that you lied intentionally, as you have no points on your licence, and therefore no motive to lie, to avoid points.
