Detective requested a second statement - what does that mean?

Hi everyone,

I reported my ex for an offense for which I wasn't the victim, I gave an official signed statement.

The detective in charge of the case called me back again to ask me to come to the police station and give a statement.

Is this indicative of anything?

Thank you

They might want you to clarify something you already mentioned or have further information you might be able to add to.

Where are you OP?
I ask as you have spelt offence with an ‘s’ and American laws and procedure can differ from U.K.

Does that mean it could possibly mean if I don't have any more information to give the case could be closed?

There's a couple of things I forgot to mention on the spot but I'm scared they'll think I'm lying

If you went down to the station to give a statement you weren't "on the spot". It was an agreed appointment at the station.

Are you saying you want to change your statement so that you can add more things?

Daysoffarethebest · 20/03/2024 13:46

Depends on what else they have.
Just be honest with them and say you forgot if that’s how it was.

The first time was at my house after they arrested him

All I said was true but I forgot to add a couple of examples of incidents that I forgot to mention, they're not extremely relevant but they could help in the case

Well in that case, you would clearly have been under extreme stress, and it is easy to think of things later on that you should have said at the time.

Don't worry. It could well be that they have done some investigating on him, and need more information or clarification.
