My DP has been renting a flat for about 14 years. Recently, it was sold as a tenant in situ.
He paid his rent to his usual landlord earlier this month… then his new landlord wanted rent a week later. Letting agent washed their hands of it all…. Said it was all down to new landlord.
His new landlord has been in touch and wants my DP out ASAP… has offered money to get him out sooner. Cash for keys?
DP has paid rent on time forever and kept flat in good order. He feels landlord is bullying him into leaving. DP has ASD and is vulnerable.

Please don’t tell me I should get him to live with me etc… it is not an option right now.

We don't know what to do. DP feels his new landlord is pushing him to leave. We know new landlord is keen to turn my DP's place into an HMO.

He should contact https://england.shelter.org.uk/get_help

Shelter]] for advice. He doesn’t need the emergency number.
It’s probably a good idea to find out what’s available to rent locally and how much it costs so that he has a good idea of a ball park figure for compensation. Feeling that your landlord wants you out is no way to live.

I was just coming on here to say contact Shelter, but urbanbuddha has already given great advice.

I would advise him to ask his new landlord to confirm the deposit scheme his deposit is being held with and if he needs to update the gas safety certificate etc. Being a landlord comes with responsibilities and the new one needs to learn that PDQ.
I'm very surprised he paid his original landlord directly and not via the agency. I'd change that moving forward too.

Thanks for the replies. I will get him to check out Shelter.

Sorry if I caused confusion about who he pays his rent to. He paid it to letting agency before. They now will not engage with him at all.

His new landlord has said he will visit in a week to "review things". That sounds a little sinister to me, and I am worried that he might pull some stunt like changing the locks etc. BTW, my DP has not been given any sort of formal notice of eviction. It has all been verbal.
