Home improvements in family home

My husband is on mortgage (married over 10 years) stretching adding me on ..
If I pay for home improvements / decoration how these costs are treated if we separate/divorce?

Also if an asset purchased during the marriage (other than home) increases in value does it belong to both spouses or is the difference (gain) split in half?

Thank you

Might be best asking to move this to legal for this one OP.

What do you mean 'stretching' adding you on? After 10 years I suspect anything is just 50-50. If you pay for improvements to a home you live in that will presumably add value so your investment (the home) will go up anyway?

Anything purchased during a marriage is a marital asset so, again, 50-50.

If you report your own post and request the move.

I’ll report it too. You’ll get good advice in the divorce section as some good family law experts there.

If you divorce, all your assets (both yours and his) will go into the pot to be divided between you. This includes the house, pension funds, bank accounts, any assets purchased during marriage, etc. There are then a range of factors that are taken into account to determine the split. The starting point is 50/50, but you may be entitled to more or less than 50%.
