Legalities of a notice period

Hello- I was due to leave an NHS role for a higher paying job. NHS verbally agreed promotion at a midpoint band pay. I worked 6 weeks of my notice period and pulled out of new job and stayed within the NHS. New contract has arrived but they won’t pay me at the rate they verbally agreed (have some messages suggestive of this- but nothing formal). I will be declining the job offer based on this. Do I have to work my notice period again? I would not have revoked my resignation- only due to being verbally advised I would be paid more. Money is really tight right now so feeling a tad screwed! Would happily work a couple of weeks notice but feeling a bit unhappy about working 8 weeks all over again as I need to be somewhere that pays more

As you have withdrawn your notice, you will have to work your notice period again. However, you may be able to persuade them to agree to a shorter period given that they have broken their promise. Even if they don't, the worst that is likely to happen if you leave without serving your notice is that they won't give you a reference.
