Would you expect legal advice through this type of cover? Meaning that the solicitors provide a specific proposal on how to proceed and tell you what expert information is required to support your case etc. I have a case going through and the solicitors have been hopeless.

Normally you will not get the service you would get it you were paying your choice of solicitor

As PP said, you will only get good service if your claim is deemed to have a high probability of success. There’s a threshold of 51% and anything below this is unlikely to progress.
If this is where you are at and they are asking for more expert information then it is up to you to provide this and this will likely cost you money to obtain. You are then in the position where even if they then deem the case to have a 51% chance of success and will proceed, there are still no guarantees and you could be further out of pocket.
Paying for your own independent solicitor ensures you’ll receive the best service, although the advice you’ve already received is still likely to hold weight in terms of the extra expert information to give your claim a good chance.
Of course there are all these no win no fee companies out there as well, but there are often hidden charges and T&Cs, such as being liable for the other party’s legal expenses if you don’t win, so definitely use caution if you were to go down this route.
