What info can I ask the police for?

I was recently involved in a road accident in which I was injured. The person who caused the accident was arrested at the scene for a number of reasons. He was on a work shift.

This has obviously caused me a lot of upset, and I have a few Q's for the police. My DH is of the mindset why bother, as they can't tell you anything, but I feel I need to know, to move on.

a) I would like to know if they person was charged, what for, and what is happening e.g. if they are going to court?

b) If the police have followed up with their workplace to make sure the employer has followed the law WRT to their staff, which they had not done with the person who caused my accident.

So my Q is, what info am I allowed to know about my accident, which has caused me physical and psychological damage due to the nature of it?

Depending on how recent the accident was, it may be too early to know what they are doing with respect to the other driver. Unless the charges are minor, the police will prepare a report for the appropriate prosecution agency (the CPS in England & Wales) who will decide whether to charge. You can certainly ask the police about progress with the case.

You say the employer hasn't followed the law with respect to their staff. Without knowing in what way the law was breached, it is impossible to say if the police would follow up. If it is a civil matter, the police generally wouldn't get involved.
