Car insurance - cancellation under 14 day distance rules

I have tried to Google and understand.

Am I entitled to cancel without having to pay a fee within 14 days and before the policy has started?

Unfortunately due to time of year I can't phone up and check until Wednesday.

You've got 14 days cooling off because it's a financial product, not because of distance selling.

The 14 days starts from when you receive the paperwork (Inc. via email) or when the cover starts- whichever is latest.

The last poster is correct. However, there may be a fee. The insurer is entitled to levy an administration fee and charge for any days for which you were insured.

Yes, this is correct. You will have to pay for the days you were insured plus any admin fees. Out of curiosity why do you want to cancel?

I would be cancelling before the policy starts, so there shouldn't be a fee?

I need to change the start date.

They can still charge you an admin fee.

I’d see if you can change the start date rather than cancelling. Or can you just work around it until the policy starts?
