Car insurance claim

Username very much my current mood - facepalm!

My DD 17 passed her test 6 weeks ago and last week had a very minor collision with a car - the car in front emergency braked and she went into them at less than 5mph, it was in queuing traffic.

There was no visible damage to the car in front, photos were taken and details exchanged. They agreed, naively, not to go through insurance.

Today she had contact from her insurers saying a third party claim has been lodged. They are waiting for a mechanic report so not sure of the damage being claimed for.

She has explained the whole thing to the claim team, sent the photos, we're trying to recover the dash cam video - but this maybe lost due to a memory card issue (I'm going to buy a card reader later)

The claim has been lodged by a male, yet there was only women in the car.

Does anyone know what this will mean for the current insurance - will it be cancelled? Is she OK to drive the vehicle in the meantime? Is there any bad issue from not telling the insurer?

So many questions and worries!

Insurance won’t be cancelled so she’s ok to carry on driving, maybe it wasn’t her car, so perhaps the owner has claimed third party insurance. She’s done the right thing and will just have to wait and see what the insurance company decides who was at fault and whether they pay the claim.

Hi thanks for your reply.

There's so many things online saying the insurance could be void because of a failure to declare at the time - it was 7 days ago which I assume is too late?

I wish they were open at the weekend because I have so many questions now.

Depends who your insurer is re your daughter not reporting. Some take a very tough stance but others don’t.
