What to do about our landlords? Won't repair or assist us

Hello,
We moved into our current rental property in April 2023, 10 days after moving in we emailed a list of issues we had with the house - mould, bad odour in the carpets, lots of other issues. Agency said speak directly to landlord as they have no responsibility, Landlord never replied. They came to fix a door knob that had broken off a storage cupboard (this took them 6 weeks, and they brought the incorrect screw and asked me to do it)
Summer came and we had been so busy and away on holiday for a month. Fast forward to September and we contacted them again about current issues, worried about winter coming. Since moving here my son and daughter have developed eczema which we are sure is down to the mould. Landlords only want to address the trivial issues (loose skirting board in kitchen) and completely ignore our other issues regarding mould. After discussion with them and the agent present, they agreed to let us leave the tenancy as soon as a new tenant is found. We have had 6 viewings recently and no one wants to take the property (they have also increased the rent)
They clearly don't want to repair these issues. 3 weeks ago they passed my number to a joiner and he still hasn't come around and he asked me to chase him if he forgot(!) to contact me
We want to leave this property now as I know it is affecting my children's health. We can stay at in laws until we find another r property. The landlords are very aggressive and came into the property shouting last time they visited; and just state 'you are in a contract'. Any advice please?

How bad is the mould? Could you contact environmental health?

HappyHamsters · 09/11/2023 13:02

It is the agents responsibility to liaise with the landlord, I would contact Shelter, citizens advice and environmental health to see if they can help.

Shelter give advice on their website under repairs

Do contact Shelter and Citizens Advice. Also check with the council whether they have a private rented team. I have a friend who lives in Leeds and she has found them very helpful with disrepair issues.

Thanks so much for replies, forgot to mention we did contact citizens advice about a month ago who recommended environmental health, we told the landlord please help with the mould or we will have to contact environmental health but they didn't seem bothered so looks like we will have to now
