Airline not refunding reasonable refreshments costs

We were caught up in the air traffic control mess in the summer. I know we aren't entitled to compensation but we are entitled to a refund of reasonable expenses for refreshments. The airline has responded saying we are not entitled to compensation but have ignored my follow up emails clarifying we don't want compensation, we want to be reimbursed for refreshments. (Delay meant we missed dinner at home so had to eat at the airport). Airline is not a member of a dispute resolution organisation.

What is the next step please and how likely are we to receive our money back?

Jet2 customers who were delayed had pastries and bottled water handed out to them by their rep. We got absolutely nothing. No contact. No information. Nothing. Certainly no refreshments in over 8 hours of waiting (coach dropped us off the usual 2 hours before).

Had you booked a package holiday or self packaged ? You also say you don’t want ‘compensation’, but you do……you want compensating for your food.

So just how much were 2 adult burger and chips and 2 kids ones? You said it was expensive. Why so? I mean at most that’s got to be £40?

Closer to £60. Which is why I described it as expensive. Far more than I'd expect to pay in the UK but there were limited food outlets.

Legally there's a difference between compensation for a delayed flight and refund for costs incurred on reasonable refreshments during the delay. It's all on the CAA website if you'd like to take a look.

Some bizarre responses on here.

IMO a £60 airport spend for 2 adults and 2 kids being delayed 6 hours is more than reasonable - has anyone saying otherwise ever actually eaten in an airport? It’s extortionate.

And who budgets for being delayed 6 hours - most folk coming back their holidays are strapped for cash on the way home.

I would have spent nearer £60 on myself if I had to sit about an airport for an additional 6 hours!

Hope you get your compensation OP 😀

Have you filled out the expense claim form?

https://www.easyjet.com/en/claim/welfare

It's different to the compensation claim.
Attach your receipts and send that one.
I had to do it in the summer for one night's hotel stay after a cancelled flight. The money was refunded to me in a few days.

Sorry wrong airline.
No idea why I thought you had said EasyJet

Some airport prices are incredibly high. Yesterday I saw a family bag of M&Ms priced at over 7 euros!
£60 for a burger meal for four is expensive because it’s airport prices not because the op went for a luxurious meal.
And of course 6 hours is a considerable delay.

I don't understand some of the nasty replies on here. The topic is 'Legal Matters' not 'What's Your Fucking Opinion'.
