Divorce is taking YEARS. This is weird, right?

Have nc because this is outing.
Filed for divorce years ago, and couldn't understand why it was taking ages. It's a very straightforward divorce, neither party disputing the assets or anything. Would hassle my solicitor occasionally, who would tell me that they were on the case and that the financial order was taking ages to go through the court.

Have just received a message to say that the financial order has been approved. But it was signed and sent in by my ex and I in early 2020! I mean, there's no way it's taken 3 and a half years, right?! I'm wondering if solicitors didn't send it in and are trying to cover themselves?
Have had the nisi done for years too, and solicitor said that the absolut is with the court now.
Can anyone shed any light on this?

There was a massive court backlog due to COVID wasn't there? Maybe it's that.

I didn't realise that it was that long! I've looked through emails and realised that I first saw a solicitor about this almost eight years ago. How can it have taken that long to get a straightforward divorce?!

Exh and I did a DIY divorce, and I know different courts have different backlog times but I put the application in just before the process changed to no fault divorce last April and we got the decree absolute in July. It took 3 months not 3 years!

If the financial order was submitted in 2020 I cannot see how it will have taken 3 years for the courts to issue a decree absolute, I'd be questioning this with the solicitor.

My divorce took around 2 years. I started with a crap legal firm and everything dragged on. Switched to a fancy London firm and it concluded in weeks. Seems connections help to cut through red tape!

My divorce application was sent to the court at the end of November 2021 and I got my decree absolute at the end of April. There’s no way it should be taking this long!

April 2022 that is, not this year.

I started divorce proceedings in Nov 2021 and finally got absolute in May 2023.

Hmmm. Someone's not being straight with me, are they? I'm going to ask my solicitor. She's been generally fantastic, so I'd be surprised and disappointed if our case has been forgotten somewhere...
