Hello all

Pls I need advice pls

A disabled friend (MS & wheelchair bound)
Can't talk or use fingers sometimes etc

He needs an accessible suitable accommodation for his needs

It took social services over a year to turn up after several referrals from the GP MS nurse etc to put care package in place for him.

Now the social st say it is not their responsibility to provide him with a suitable accommodation and passed him on to housing. But housing is saying it is not their responsibility but that if social services

Housing is saying they haven't got any suitable properties for him and will most probably put him in bed and breakfast.

We were told we probably need to put legal Preston the social services and I am wondering what area of law would cover this situation. I just got off the call with a law firm and the lady was saying it's a civil case but I am puzzled as to why.

Can someone pls kindly enlighten me on how to move forward with this? What area of law so that we can find a law firm to help or recommend a law firm pls and whose responsibility it is exactly is to provide him with a suitable accommodation.

Thanks

I’m not sure you want to throw money at this. Are there adaptations that can be made where he is? Maybe contact a MS charity for clear advice and guidance. I would suggest housing is a housing association issue so get on a waiting list. Is there suitable sheltered living accommodation anywhere with greater help? This is local authority issue via his social worker. Funding might be via NHS though. Just get advice from a MS charity.

Thanks @TizerorFizz

Unfortunately, his current accommodation can't be adapted and he's got to move from there.
Thanks, I will call the MS charity.

There’s MS Trust and MS Society. Hopefully they can offer advice. Good luck.

You need either a community care solicitor or a housing law solicitor (not property)
Try Civil legal advice to point you in the right direction, depending on what stage you are at with the council.
