No workplace pension

I’ve been working with my company for 5 years now (started at 20) and have not been offered a pension. Stupidly I hadn’t thought much about this until recently and am now panicking.

Pensions are brought up at every staff meeting and we’re alway told that something will be put in place. They have now sent us all a link of 2 private pension companies and told us to arrange it ourselves.

Can anybody advise me of what can be done. Surely this isn’t legal? Am I able to claim back for the past 5 years?

They have to auto enrol you into a workplace pension as long as you eat over a certain amount, think it around £500 pm.

I would contact the pensions regulator and present them with the hard facts.

Your employer is legally required to provide a pension and make contributions on your behalf.

This is from govt website.

What your employer must do. Your employer must automatically enrol you into a pension scheme and make contributions to your pension if you're eligible for automatic enrolment. If your employer does not have to enrol you by law, you can still join their pension scheme if you want to. Your employer cannot refuse.

Who is eligible ? This is from Citizens Advice

You'll be eligible if you're: not already in a workplace pension. aged 22 or over.

Your employer can take a look at this which is govt run, free to set up and portable for employees who move jobs.
