Landlord & Tenant Act 1(1) re landlord's contact details

The law seems clear that tenants have the right to know their landlord's contact details, but what if the agent says they are "acting as the landlord" under thevterms of their agreement with the landlord?

The agent for my son's potential flatshare has so far avoided giving him the landlord's contact details for this reason. He's managed to get the name and address from the land registry, so it's not a showstopper, but I'm curious about the principle. Does "acting as the landlord" equate to being the landlord for the purposes of clause 1(1)? Surely not?

I think it's usually the address to which your son would send notices (ie I wish to end the tenancy, I wish to take you to court for disrepair etc)
What does his contract/tenancy agreement say?

And why do you need to know this when it is only a future potential home?

IANAL but my reading of the Act is that a TENANT must be provided with those details, not anyone who requests them

It's an address for the landlord OR their representative. If they are using an letting agent, putting down their name and address on the agreement is legal.

My understanding (I looked in to this for my son’s university tenancy) is that the landlord cannot enforce collection of rent without having supplied the tenant with their name and address. Their agent’s address is sufficient.

The landlord could live abroad, if they are using an estate agent
