I don't drives any more due to disability. I am also T2 diabetic (insulin dependent). One car is in my name and insured in my name. Thing is I haven't notified DVLA cos I don't actually drive any more. However, in an emergency where I did have to, would my insurance cover me?

You should be fine long as you don't drive during a hypo.

@MeMyCatsAndMyBooks is wrong here.

You HAVE to inform the DVLA if you are on insulin and they will make a decision on wether or not to offer you a restricted driving license. It’s mandatory. You can be fined up to £1,000 if you do not tell DVLA about a medical condition that affects your driving. You may be prosecuted if you’re involved in an accident as a result.

The process for applying for a medical license is easy. You fill out a form on .gov website. They send you a letter a few weeks later asking if you accept the ‘rules’ of the restricted license (testing before driving, testing every 2 hours when driving, carrying testing equipment with you etc.) and then your new licence comes though. You have to update your insurance but there is no cost attached to this.
