Cancellation policy change

Hoping for some wisdom. I booked a holiday back in February at a small holiday park. Paid a 25% deposit at the time, with the remaining 75% taken a month before we are due to go. At the time of booking, the cancellation policy was a refund of accommodation costs (less a booking fee) if cancelled more than 14 days prior to your arrival date. We are due to arrive end of July. I emailed yesterday to enquire about cancelling and requesting a refund. The owner emailed back saying as of the start of this month the cancellation policy had changed to be 30 days prior, so cancelling within 30 days would mean no refund at all.

They appear to have changed the cancellation policy on their website a few hours after my email, so it now states the new policy, then they replied back saying it was effective from the start of this month.

We have a cached version or the page taken after my email was sent that still says 14 days. Plus this was what was stated when I first booked. So I'm thinking this is bullshit right, they are taking the piss? I've not got an email with the policy specifically stated, it all just directed back to their website. Can they just change the policy and not tell me?

Even if it has changed, I wouldn’t have thought that applied to you as you booked earlier.

That’s incredibly cheeky of them. They can’t change the contractual terms after you’ve agreed on them, surely? Citizen’s Advice are good for this sort of thing.
