Basic probate application - question on IHT forms and Nil rate band transfer

My grandma passed in 2008 and everything went to my granddad (husband). My granddad has recently passed (May 2023). I am filling out the probate application currently and it says that I do not need to do IHT400 if it is an excepted estate. The estate comes to about £590,000 so meets the requirements for this. Am I correct in thinking that as of 2022 onwards, no IHT forms will be required and I can just do the online PA1P form and this will cover the transfer of unused nil rate band or am I missing something?

Also is there another stage after submitting this form or is this all of probate?

Thank you ever so much for any help, my head is spinning!

Generally, the estate is under £650k and is an excepted estate therefore IHTforms not required.

(available is NRB £325K and TNRB £325k)

I had a similar scenario 12 months ago and came to the same conclusion as you - I’m not an expert though !
