DH at risk of redundancy

Hi, looking for some advice!

This morning DH was told he is at risk of redundancy. He’ll have a meeting on Friday where he’ll get more information - why he’s been chosen etc. He’s not been that happy at work for a while and had already started looking for a new job, so not entirely awful news but not great either as we have two small children and my salary won’t cover the mortgage and childcare costs, let alone everything else.

DH has worked in his current job for 3.5 years. His contract states he should have annual salary reviews in january but this has never happened. In March this year he formally requested a raise, but his email was ignored. Is this a breach of contract and could he raise a grievance / suggest the redundancy is unfair?

Thank you!!

@Memo88 an annual salary review is just that a review their is no guarantee of a raise.

He should look at the redundancy section of the staff handbook (contract, policy or whatever his work call it). It should clearly lay out the steps they will take so he will know what to expect.

Thanks, I realise that, but I don’t think there has ever been a review, would DH’s employer have made employees aware it was happening? I don’t have much experience to draw from - I’ve worked at a large company for a decade where salary reviews are done annually with staff being told, one way or the other.

Thanks, I’ll tell him to dig it out!

No, an employee doesn't have to be part of the review process.
