Return to office / remote working contract

Hello
Prior to the pandemic I was working for a big international company in London. I lived in the home counties. My husband got a job in Manchester, so we moved, with an informal agreement I would continue my job remotely and come into London twice a month. I asked HR if I needed a change to my contract, which said I was based in London, and they said no.
The pandemic hit and the company changed EVERYONE to home workers. They made us sign an addendum to our contracts which said the maximum they could ask us to come into London was twice a month and they would pay for all travel.
Like many of the big banks and tech companies they are now rowing back on this and want everyone back in 2-3 days a week. I have agreed with my manager I will come in once or twice a month as we planned pre-pandemic. However I know they are now looking at making everyone sign new contracts saying they should be in the office 2-3 days a week, and everyone will be back to paying for their own travel. Does anyone know where I stand legally on this? I am reluctant to sign a new contract that I simply cannot keep my end of (aside from paying for my own travel which is of course reasonable.)
