Royal Caribbean changing cruise price after paying

So, we have just about scraped the money together for a holiday in July. Lots of holidays out of our price range but managed to book a 7 day cruise around Norway for 2.7k - 2 adults, 2 kids. Booked it yesterday morning, paid in full, all good. I booked the hotel, parking, pet sitter etc. yesterday afternoon all non refundable. Got an email at 9pm last night to say price was wrong on website, price would not be honoured and offering me $100 in onboard credit (which we don’t need).

So this morning they still haven’t got in touch to tell me how much more I will have to pay if I don’t cancel. I phone up, it’s £1500 extra!!! I’ve now been on hold to speak to a supervisor for an hour but they say they won’t be able to do anything.

What on earth do we do? If we cancel we are £500 out of pocket. Any advice welcome. I’m so sad.

Switch to P&O - Iona sails weekly and is much better value for money. Ship is huge with lots going on, we paid £998 for 2 people last week for 7 nights and had a fab time!

Whilst annoying

absolutely contractually legal

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 04/05/2023 10:49

I’d email the ceo too.

I work in travel. It is legal IF the price the holiday was booked at is obviously too cheap. So if the price was £2500 and should have been £3000, then there's an argument to say it's not a big enough price difference and could legitimately have been a special offer.

Given the OP has stated that most holidays were out of her price range, I think the company are on fair grounds to say it would have been obvious this was a bargain.

What do you mean by 'too cheap'?

And a bargain clearly isn't a bargain if the price goes up when it suits the company.

Northernladdette · 04/05/2023 10:52

This is awful, they made a mistake, they need to honour the price you paid .

GasPanic · 04/05/2023 10:52

Screenshot the fact they have not changed the price. Try to get the time and date as well.

Report to everyone you can think of. Thisismoney, Dailymail, ABTA if they are a member. Trading standards.

One thing for an organisation to make a mistake on the price, quite another to not correct it as soon as the error found. That suggests that it might be using it to suck people in and change the price at a later stage, which is completely unacceptable.

So does that mean that the company can come back at any stage prior to delivery of the goods/services that the supplier can just decide to demand more? That doesn't seem right at all?

1idea · 04/05/2023 10:19

Is there still a loss of bargain law which may apply to this?

No

No point

what they done, whilst annoying, is an error and they are within their right to cancel.

They have offered 100, which they actually didn’t need to have done.

Bamboozleme · 04/05/2023 10:55

It is actually more common than you’d think

annoying but no remedy Op

take the 100 and pay the extra or they will cancel

I would say that 2.7k for 4 people is not obviously too cheap. I would have just thought it was that price as maybe a less popular destination or time than those more expensive.

OP you purchased in good faith at the advertised price with no reason to think this was incorrect so they have to honour it. If I were you I would be contacting citizens advice ASAP.

This and trading standards as soon as you can

DenmarkDen · 04/05/2023 10:58

Try emailing the bigwigs, they hate getting complaints and usually pass it on to the nearest lackey and tell them to sort it! Jason Liberty is President and Chief Executive Officer for Royal Caribbean Group. His email is [email protected]. Or Michael Bayley who is the President and CEO of Royal Caribbean International. His email is [email protected]. Good luck, I hope this helps x

Bamboozleme · 04/05/2023 10:58

Please stop advertising trading standards and such nonsense

it is annoying but there is no remedy!!!

they can cancel. Op lucky to have been offered 100 dollars as they didn’t need to have done anything!

Plus the website is still showing the ‘incorrect price’! Over 48 hours after they ‘became aware of it’

I'd screen shot that. It sounds like a lot of people will continue to be booking under false pretences which makes it a bit of a scam.

Bamboozleme · 04/05/2023 10:59

Please stop suggesting trading standards

Even though the company are still advertising the incorrect price 48 hours later? That surely is a scam, rather than an error?

ign0re · 04/05/2023 11:02

Jesus that’s so bad and would give me such anxiety to ever book with them! Hope you manage to get it sorted!

Are you a lawyer? I am and I don't think it's this clear cut at all. Not sure why you're so invested in the OP just dropping it, do you work for RC?

RobinStrike · 04/05/2023 11:03

I would go on any Facebook groups for RC, for that particular ship and search for others on this sailing. See if anyone else has had problems and whether they have found a solution. Did you go through a travel agent? They may be able to help. I've also found I've got replies fairly quickly from other cruise lines on FB Messenger. Good luck. I hope you manage to sort something.

Justwingingit2005 · 04/05/2023 11:05

We had a RC cruise last year. That price is incredibly cheap but I still don't see how they can ask for more money.
We had an issue they swapped us from connecting rooms to separate rooms. I did have a fight to get connecting rooms back again, but having said we did a Norway cruise last year with them and love it.

dreamingofsun · 04/05/2023 11:06

do you have legal advice as part of any of your insurances....maybe house insurance? you need some decent legal advise before you do anything. there's some good and bad advise on here and its hard to work out which is which.

dont do anything till you have decent advise....other than the screen shotting
