Fined for being undercharged for fuel

At pp's suggestion I've ccd this over from AIBU.
I've been chased by Forecourt Eye as being a "drive off" from our local garage after filling up, despite clear evidence of paying inside rhe garage - they sent cctv photo - and a bank statement showing I tapped the princely sum of 1p.

Basically they undercharged me and neither of us noticed.

They sent the receipt which I am more than happy to pay for, but are adding an "admin fee" of £30, now down to £10 after I rang them . They say I have 50% responsibility to check the amount.
So - yes I'll pay what I owe but do I really need to pay the admin fee??

Did you sign a contract to say that you are liable?
I suspect not,
just pay the receipted amount.

You don't have to sign a contract for it to be valid. By entering a shop, going through the till and paying for goods, you have entered into a contract. The seller offers their goods, you accept and pay = contract. OP didn't pay, therefore is in breach of her contract.

Worth arguing about? She does have a duty to check her receipt but the seller also has a duty to provide working equipment.

Surely the price the retailer charges is the contract price? It’s like if there is a mistake on the price shown on the shelf you can’t force the shop to honour it as that is an invitation to treat. Contract is made at the till.

Fair enough to expect OP the correct amount but not a fine.

Also she did pay. She paid 1p.

PP have already made the point I would have done.
