Partner changing his last name

xttcbabyno1x · 11/03/2023 10:11

To cut a long story short, my partner has his mums last name, his dad is no longer alive and my partner wants to change his last name to be his fathers last name.

What is the difference between an "unenrolled" and an "enrolled" deed poll?

We've tried looking everywhere but are so confused it doesn't make sense. We did fill out a enrolled deed poll form but got stuck when it said we needed a solicitor to sign it.

If anyone has any idea on the differences that would be great! Thank you!

Mines unenrolled… means nothing in the grand scheme of things. Everything I have is in my new name. I think the only difference was it being printed in some newspaper?

@Thisisnotmyname2022 thank you! Did you just use the government template for an unenrolled name change and just send it to everyone who required it ?

www.deedpoll.org.uk

I used these, both to change my surname and then my daughters first name a few years later.

very straight forward.

I’ve had no issues with getting an updated driving license, getting divorced or changing bank account details over. Have yet to apply for a passport but I will be doing that in the next month or so.

Don’t pay anyone for this.

The gov website has it all there for free - and you don’t need to enroll it.
