14 day cooling off period advise needed

Less than 2 weeks ago I purchased a 12 week, online dietician course for a health issue that I suffer from.
This online program is released in sections and paid in 3 instalments, so I currently only have access to the first section and the others are locked/unavailable and would obviously become available/unlocked when I pay the next instalments.
The cost is £167 per month, for 3 months. I have already paid the first £167 on 20th February.
Unfortunately, I had raging toothache a few days ago and have discovered that I need root cancel, 2 teeth removed and a denture. This is going to cost me a lot of (unexpected and unprepared for) money.
I just can not afford both the dietician course and the dental treatment right now and obviously the dental work is urgent so has to be the priority.

So I really need to cancel the dietician course.

I have contacted the dietician and explained the situation. I totally understand that I won’t get a refund for the February payment. They have emailed to say it is not their policy to offer refunds or accept cancellations (it only states on their Ts&Cs that they don’t offer refunds). They say they will still want the money whether it’s now or later.

I have looked online and see there is a cooling off period of at least 14 days on services purchased online, could this apply to a situation like this?

Does anyone have any idea is there is anything I can do about this?

I paid by credit card but need to use this card for the dental treatment and if both the dental work AND the dietician payments are taken out this will push me over my credit limit and into some debt.

I'm sure someone legal will come along and clarify but I think you can cancel the parts you haven't used.

Just cancel the next payments. Surely they can't take you to court for money for something you haven't received, as long as you don't try to access the next parts.

Is any of the course bespoke? Has it in any way been prepared or altered specifically for your requirements or based on a form or questions before you began, or any details you gave?

On the information you have posted, yes, the 14-day cancellation period applies. Their policy is contrary to the law, specifically the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. Keep evidence that you have cancelled within 14 days (an email will do). Be clear to the dietician that you are exercising your legal right to cancel (which, as it is enshrined in law, trumps their policy) and will not be making any further payments. If the dietician is foolish enough to take you to court for payment, they will lose.

Thank you Polarbearyfairy that’s really helpful.
whosaidtha I have contacted them, explaining my predicament and to say I need to cancel but they have said they do not accept cancellations and that I will need to pay. I have contacted Barclaycard and they say the only thing I can do is to allow them to take the money then I will have to try to claim it back. I would like to avoid this before it gets to that stage.
Thingsthatgo No, there is nothing personalised about the course. It’s a standard 12 week for for sufferers of my health issue.
Thank you so much prh47bridge
