Annual leave entitlement - contract

NoobJ · 21/02/2023 23:57

I'm wondering if anyone can help. I work full time but over 4 days. My contract states I work four days a week.
My contract also states I get 25days annual leave. Does this mean I get 6 weeks +1 day or does it mean 5 weeks?

If the allowance is expressed as 25 days, you can book 25 x 1 day holidays (or equivalent half days etc).

You wouldn't book a holiday for a day you are not contracted to work.

If you want to be off for a week/ 7 consecutive days you would only need to request the 4 you were scheduled to work.

Do you work compressed hours or does everyone work 4 days a week? If it's the first, does that mean you're effectively paid 1.25 days for every day you work? If so, don't you need to book 1.25 days for every day you want to take off? I'd definitely check though as it needs to be clear!

I agree with @GU24Mum

If you are working full time hours over 4 days, and if 25 days is the holiday allocation for full time workers, you will need to deduct 1.25 days every time you take a working day off. So you will end up with 5 weeks holiday, the same as a full timer working 5 days a week.

A couple of important 'ifs' in the above - you need to confirm with your manager/HR.

Agree with the posters above. A day of "your" holiday should count as 1.25 holiday days. You may need to get your holiday calculated in hours but do check with HR.

Thank you. The annual leave policy actually states employees get 4 weeks holiday. So its clear as mud. Will go back to them.

If it’s 5 days X 4 weeks for standard workers (20 days) it’s 16 days off for you. Is it not? 4/5 of the entitlement in other words.

TeapotCollection · 22/02/2023 14:27

25 days off is a lot for someone who only works 4 days. Unless, as others have said, you have to book 1.25 days for a day off

Mumsafan · 22/02/2023 14:29

It is 4 weeks of how ever many days you work a week.

So those working 5 days a week get 20 days and those working, say, 3 days a week get 12.

She doesn’t work 4 days, she works 5 days over 4.

DH books time off in hours. So he would book 8h for a day off whereas you would book 10h. Might be easier to think about it like that?
