Advice on identity theft

I've checked my credit report and there are a number of soft searches for insurance (presumably home insurance but could be other types with Admiral, Hastings and others) issued to my old home address.

I contacted Hastings and they said to contact ActionFraud as Hastings can't do anything but not sure this is quite right? Should I contact the various credit report providers and can I put a password on my account? I already have one but guess it's only for lenders, not insurance??

Any advice much appreciated.

If you use a comparison site, that can result in soft searches. Is it possible that a comparison site you use still has your old address?

If you are certain this is not you, you need to raise a dispute with the report providers.

Not sure what you mean about a password. If you already have a password on your account for the credit report, that applies to all information. However, your password does not prevent lenders, insurance companies, etc. accessing your credit report and adding information to it.

Thanks, no comparison sites.

Sorry I added a CIFAS protective registration that was supposed to stop this kind of thing.

I did have a CCJ issued this month that I have successfully disputed as it was wronh (parking ticket). They were using the same old address even though DVLA has new address so I never got their correspondence. Maybe they were trying to get new contact details for me.

Either way I'll speak to the various report providers.

Yes I think it’s the credit report people you need to contact. I had a query with Experian just last week and sent an email. They answered really quickly and helpfully.

hope you can get it sorted. What a pain for you.

Thank you @BitOutOfPractice. Have contacted them now and they are investigating.

Transunion have also suggested getting a password added to my account (this is separate from CIFAS protection that I already have).
