Faulty 25k car!

Hi, not sure what topic this comes under but believe it may be a legal issue? Anyway..

I bought a car for 25k from a large and popular dealership about 6 months ago and it developed faults within 2. Contacted them to have it repaired which they did but same and new faults developed another 2 months later.

Sought advice and was told I am now entitled to a price reduction whilst keeping goods or full refund minus usage fee and return goods.

I have decided I would rather keep the car & carry out the repairs and have asked for half the money back to do so.

However, they insist that this can't be the case and it's either full refund (minus usage) or other option is to get it repaired again. FYI was told it's a "big job".

Please note that this was all reported within 6 months but I am now out of the 6 month timeframe therefore even if the next set of repairs failed, I would be kinda stuck. Also, I just don't want them to do it anyway coz it seems like they will do a shit job evidently!

Anyone else been in this position? What did you do?

TIA

They've repaired it and it has gone wrong again. You are therefore entitled to a price reduction, or you can exercise the final right to reject. Consumer Rights Act 2015 Section 24. As you want half the money back this will not be a small claim so, if they continue to refuse, you should consult a solicitor. This sounds like a straightforward case, so you may be able to get a solicitor on a no win, no fee arrangement.

@theemmadilemma

Thank you for the link - very useful! Pretty much says what I thought so that's good. Now to convince those idiots of the same...😏

@prh47bridge yeah I thought it was an open & shut case so didn't expect a fight for this partial refund. As I understand, the limit for small claims is 10k so a solicitor is probably wise. Thanks for the advice!
