LinkedIn profile/ abusive ex

Not sure what to do. I keep my LinkedIn profile vague because my ex has a track record of approaching third parties to tell lies about me. I’m not kidding. I have nothing to hide but it’s always awkward, to say the least, if not downright damaging, time consuming and stressful when it happens. The most recent occurrence was 12 months ago… I would like to be more public about my professional record and current role but just scared he’ll do it again. I don’t have the energy or money for some kind of court order and I’d probably be laughed out of court. What do I do?

If he is making defamatory allegations against you, you wouldn't be laughed out of court. You could get a solicitor to send him a cease and desist letter, but if that doesn't work the only thing you can do is take him to court. Check your home insurance. If it includes legal cover, they may be able to help.

Domestic abuse protection notice? (Interfering with my ability to earn?)

OP posts:
prh47bridge · 26/01/2023 14:24

They don't exist yet. Whilst the Domestic Abuse Act has been passed into law, the provisions relating to DAPNs and DAPOs are not yet in force. Even if it was, it is not clear if the police would issue a DAPN on this situation.

NooNooMummy · 26/01/2023 17:51

Yes, does he have to have done something before the police can act? (He’s done plenty over the years…)

They may charge him with an offence but only if you have evidence that this has been happening, the CPS believe his behaviour is serious enough to be a criminal offence and you are willing to give evidence in court. If you don't have the evidence, or you are unwilling to appear in court, or they don't think his behaviour meets the criminal standard, you are back to having to take action yourself.

Do you need your Linked In profile?

NooNooMummy · 27/01/2023 15:39

Kind of, in my industry. Is unusual not to

Same problem ex caused so many issues for a previous employer it became very difficult.

I haven’t updated mine for years as I can’t run the risk of her finding out what I am doing.

I suspect this is a problem for lots of people.

Interesting that you’ve signed up solely to post that Daddyeaddy

Are you just confirming that this is part of abusive, absent fathers’ playbook?

I changed my name when I got married and now my ex can’t identify me. I don’t have a clear profile pic for the same reason.

Not sure what you are implying but Daddywaddy (NOT Daddyeaddy) has been posting since mid-November and this is his twelfth post, so he did not sign up solely to post that. He appears to be saying that he has had a similar issue with his ex.

NooNooMummy · 29/01/2023 14:12

had too many run ins with fathers4justice types
