Disability and self employment law

A peripatetic music teacher colleague has been asked to leave her school because she has developed a disability and can no longer climb the stairs to the music department. She suggested that an empty downstairs room could be used to house a piano, but it was refused.
She is self-employed, aged 60, and has now lost the potential earnings of about £250 per week (during term time).
What are her rights?

As a self employed person probably none.

I'm pleased to say that @Hoppinggreen is wrong. She has the right not to be discriminated against due to her disability. If the school has refused to make a reasonable adjustment, that is discrimination. They may have good reasons why the piano cannot be housed in the empty room, but if not she may have a case.

Have they just said 'no' and that's it? Or 'no we can't be bothered moving the piano' or 'no that's in x department and the noise would disturb classes'?

And I am actually pleased to be wrong in this case 😁

Suggest they contact

@Lysianthus thank you, I'll pass that on.
@MichelleScarn The music department used to be downstairs and there are empty rooms. The most suitable one is apparently too near the Science department and would be 'too loud'
This is a private prep school, so no essential GCSE or A'Level work going on, and it would only be one day a week.

Probably not useful on a British site when the issue was posted a year ago Hmm

A sort of update - my colleague has got the backing of her Union, and now things have gone very quiet.
I'm guessing, because no-one is talking about it, that she will be paid off to keep quiet, and not ruin the school's reputation.
