Sister ripping off her brother

My partners mum passed away earlier this year. She lived abroad in a mobile home on a holiday park (no named deeds on the property). There are 2 siblings one of which lives in the same country as the mother, she dealt with the sale of the mobile property and had the proceeds transferred to her account.

She is now refusing to divide the amount equally and transfer half to my partner.

He is obviously devastated that his only sibling has done this to him.

She is currently going through a separation and claims she "wants to borrow it" until she receives her divorce settlement.

That will be at least a year as she lives in a country where you have to be separated for at least a year until you can get divorced. I suspect when that time comes there will be various other reasons, she didn't get as much as she thought she would in the settlement etc. She also lives a champagne life-style so will quickly burn through the money.

My question is if I go to a solicitor is there anything they can do? Would I be better off getting a solicitor in the UK or in the country she lives in?

The theft occured in another country. You would need to understand the laws of succession in that country, and if it is indeed a theft it would be for the authorities there to investigate. If he wants to take civil action again it would be through the courts there.

Trying to find an advice on a UK based website is likely to prove fruitless - even if you divulged the name of the country concerned.
