Unauthorised photography within my home and sharing of the photographs

Changerofthename1 · 09/11/2022 19:08

I found out that a contractor has taken photographs of the inside of my home that I did not authorise, one of them has got my child in the corner I’m fucking furious about. Obviously it’s gone from one employees phone to another and then it’s been forwarded onto who is thinks is me but actually I’m using an email address that isn’t the one that he would have on my contract if that makes sense so I think he’s on thin ice with that.

This can’t be legal surely ?

@Westendbuoys I am in bed and it’s still to much!

Kite22 · 09/11/2022 22:29

Thing is, we are all speculating / supposing / guessing, because the OP is refusing to actually answer any questions or give any information that might be helpful.

Now, obviously nobody has to give any information about the work on their house to hundreds of thousands of strangers BUT none of us can actually help, or give any advice without any information.

TheWurst · 09/11/2022 22:31

I can’t for the life of me work out what could be outing about renovating unless you are getting a 10ft mural of your own face painted on the wall or something. Even then you could just say you were having the hallway painted.

saraclara · 09/11/2022 22:32

So the guys came round, but found that they couldn't start the job because (whatever reason). Obviously they were going to have to go back and tell their boss. But they know that the boss will be unhappy and possibly question their decision. So they take photos to show him that their decision was reasonable.

When s/he sees the photos, s/he recognises that yes there is a problem, so they email OP and attach the photos to illustrate the problem.

The photos are purely there as explanation and have not been shared with anyone outside the 'need to know' personnel. It's very standard for trades people to take photos for reference. No-one has done anything wrong. They probably didn't even notice the child.

At some point OP must have used her alternative email account. There's no other way they could have it.

Is that accurate? Because this whole thing is confusing.

@OneFootintheRave
You're that poster who was upset that you had to pay a vet to dispose of your hamster, aren't you?
not a line I was expecting to read, quality indeed.

Because it's not "outing"

The OP's refusal to say clearly means that either she is embarrassed or in the wrong and as I said upthread, using the kid as an excuse to try and prove she isn't in breach of contract.

Surely I'm not the only one thinking this?

Changerofthename1 · 09/11/2022 22:37

The work is an extension at the back of the house.
You do not need to be an architect a project manager or even have two brain cells that work together to establish that you are not going to start laying floor at the front of the house or painting walls that you are going to be dragging materials for the next five weeks through.

But what was the reason that they claimed they couldn't work? And was that reason something that could be (was) captured on the photograph(s) they took?

IfIGoThereWillBeTrouble · 09/11/2022 22:39

@Changerofthename1 I had the kettle and rich tea biscuits at the ready.

That’s where you went wrong, OP. Only only choice of biscuit. I bet if you’d got some custard creams and bourbons, everything would have gone to plan. If you want the gold standard service, you need to splash out on some Jaffa cakes.

They’ve basically misquoted.

You say the work is an extension to the back of your house, but in earlier posts it was work that went from the hall to the lounge and the kitchen.

So which is it, because this thread is totally nuts and you sound unhinged.

So what is it you want them to do?

Do you own your house or are you renting?

MadKittenWoman · 09/11/2022 22:43

I’ve read 9 pages of this and I still don’t understand wtf this is about.

I was making a point and no you aren’t some genius and the rest of us just haven’t worked it out, lots of people have said that on this thread.

k1233 · 09/11/2022 22:43

I'm not sure how them misquoting puts you in breach of contract?

Changerofthename1 · 09/11/2022 22:44

I moved towards the back of the house expecting that they were following me apparently they weren’t. They must’ve taken the pictures when my back was turned.

if you’re going to play detect if you have to read through all of the posts to try and pick holes in it if you miss one you’re likely to stuff it up. And then that makes you sound unhinged.

Okay, that makes some sense... but do they need to keep going through the front of the house to get to the back to bring - leaving doors open, moving equipment and tools?
Would they need to leave some equipment in reach of the toddler?
Are they taking a wall down?
etc
etc

(I do get that if they are also supposed to be redecorating and/or reflooring, that that would be logically done after the extension building)

TheWurst · 09/11/2022 22:45

@WilsonMilson isn’t the one who sounds unhinged here...

KnickerlessParsons · 09/11/2022 22:47

What about the right to privacy ?

I doubt sending photos of your own home to you would breach any privacy rules

Brightpinkleopard · 09/11/2022 22:47

Surely he must've gotten to the back of the house to realise he wouldn't be completing the work. Why is he taking interior pictures when it's an extension on the back exterior of the house?

TheWurst · 09/11/2022 22:47

No builder would quote for an extension without seeing the site so what’s happened between now and then to be a breach of contract?

Supercal00 · 09/11/2022 22:49

The OP is ridiculously reactive to posts. Doesn’t sound like a pleasant person at all so maybe the builder has done a good thing not working with her! If you post asking questions on here don’t expect it to all go your way of how you expect it to. No need to be so aggressive and such a smart arse with people.

VivX · 09/11/2022 22:49

Misquoting is not breach of contract.

Why do you think they have misquoted you?
If it is just the absence of "paint etc" (which you mentioned upthread), surely you wouldn't expect them to bring the paint before the building works were done (as you later say, "you are not going to start laying floor at the front of the house or painting walls that you are going to be dragging materials for the next five weeks through."

If you're expecting them to commence building work first, then they'd have tools and equipment but not "paint etc" with them. Would they need to be digging foundations first, for example?

@TheWurst I paid £5000 deposit in good faith expecting somebody to do work that they told me they could competently carry out within my home. The thanks for want of a better word I have received for putting my trust in them in transferring five grand in cash into their account is for them to come into my home and start photographing my kid. And the response on Mumsnet is it my house must be a shit tip and I’m sacrificing pigs in my kitchen and smoking around my child.

I don’t know what lives some of you must live to create these little fantasies in your mind but I genuinely hope I never meet some of you.

Don’t worry I think the feeling is mutual.
