I posted in property but have moved it here. I am due a court ordered lump sum from a divorce settlement by a date approaching. I have secured a property with the court order being accepted as proof of funds and also put down a small deposit

oh my god now im worried I’ve made an awful mistake. What happens if he doesn’t pay up? It’s a cash lump sum and he doesn’t need to sell his house to raise it, he is wealthy

it’s not a horrendously large amount but it’s enough to buy this property outright

If he doesn't pay up you will have to take enforcement action. Is there any reason to think he might not pay?

His whole behaviour throughout and the disparity of what he offered compared to what I was awarded it quite big, does an enforcement order take a long time? Surely the court would be annoyed?

Yes, the court would be annoyed, but they won't know anything about it or be able to do anything unless you take enforcement action.

How long it takes to enforce depends on the backlog in the relevant courts and how obstructive he is.

I really hope he just pays, I’ve spoken to my solicitor and she has informed me what the process is and said that his solicitor will have explained the ramifications of not paying
