Car keeps breaking down

Need some advice. I bought a used car from a main dealer in December last year. Since then it has had a number of recurring problems which the dealership has tried to fix under warranty at no cost to me except time and trouble.

However, it has lost power and gone into 'limp home' mode on several occasions. This is really scary when it happens, especially if I'm overtaking st the time. I've been lucky so far in that I haven't been caught out not being able to pass a vehicle.

The car has been into the dealers six or seven times now, it has just happened again and I no longer trust the car.

The dealer has offered a frankly derisory amount to buy it off me and there are no suitable replacements available in the dealer stock.

I had no intention of changing the car for another three or four years, but I don't feel safe driving it now. Would I be able to reject the vehicle? I have had it for 10 months and was first in for repair only a week after I took delivery. The first time it lost power while being driven was in May this year, then again in June, July and October, same symptoms, they have replaced sensors, valves and whatnot but it doesn't reliably fix the problem.

What can I do? Thanks

What is the car? How old is it? Does it have a manufacturers warranty? May sounds like the first significant problem which is more than 6 months after your bought it, that seems like the usual dealer warranty.

I would look to get it diagnosed at a main dealer. It's not a Evoque is it?

I collected it in mid December and it was in the garage within a week of collecting it. The faults are linked.

It was five years old and came with a year's warranty, and they have been fab at taking it in and doing their best to fix it. But it doesn't seem fixable.

Are Evoques known for this? I had one for four years and 45000 miles and it never put a foot wrong.

Not related to warranty questions, but when my car started doing the losing power and have to limp home mode, the mechanic couldnt find any cause for it, but decided to try re distancing the spark plug thingys, even though they seemed fine. Apparently if the gap is not right, then the engine doesnt power properly. I know this is an awful description but i know 0 about cars...! He had a proper little measure thing to get it exactly right, and it worked!

Might be worth a suggestion for them to check, but as youve had lots of other issues, might not be the total solution, but worth trying maybe?

Stand firm. Tell them it's not fit for purpose, and that you want a full refund, which you are entitled to. They'll fob you off try and tell you that you aren't entitled to anything. Then they'll make you a bad offer. Then they'll offer you a poor exchange. If you hold out, Your'll get a better deal than what they first offer you, if you've got the bollocks to hold firm.

I'm afraid @Oblomov22 is wrong. You are not entitled to a full refund. However, as they have had several failed attempts to fix the problem, you are entitled to reject the car and get a refund of the price you paid less an amount for the use you have had of the car.

Thanks everyone. Wish me luck

Just reading its a Land-rover Evoque. Sadly land rovers are not the reliable vehicles they once were, I'd never own another.
Stick to your guns and reject the car, I'd expect full refund, maybe a little less for the 10 months of ownership, buy it sounds like it's been 10 months of it breaking down, so full refund.
Sadly land-rover customer service is about as crap as their cars.... Good luck

I've succeeded. They offered a pathetic amount at first due to a slow used car market but I quoted the Consumer Act at them and they backed down pretty quickly. And paid me the same day. So a good result.
