Child's first passport and birth certificate

Hi ladies, hoping someone can help as I've googled my eyes out and can't find a definite answer.
When my little one was born, dad and I were not married. We will be getting married soon and it's a legal requirement to re-register her birth once we do.
Also, dad has since changed his surname via deedpoll and I will also be taking his surname when we get married.

Looking at Surrey Council's website, they are saying this process of re-registering a birth is suspended at the moment. No clue as to when it's coming back!

I need to get the little one's passport asap as we are traveling in January. Does anyone know if I can get her passport using the old birth certificate?
Also, do the parents names show anywhere on a baby's passport?

TIA!

I know it's not very helpful, but I don't think you HAVE to re-register the birth. I thought it was optional.

It’s a legal requirement.

why can’t your future DH change his name to yours? Easier all round?

Yes, definitely legal requirement, it even says it on the council website. Right above the "temporarily suspended" bit ffs!

The name change is a whole thing.
Baby's surname is X
When she was born dad was Mr Y. I was/am Mrs Z.
Dad changed his name via deedpoll to X. And once we get married, I will also become Ms X.

So by the end of it all, we all have the same surname. Reason we did it like this is X is easy to spell/pronounce in English. Y and Z are not.

Do the parents' names show on the baby passport?

Yes, it is a legal requirement to re-register the birth, but the penalty for not doing so is a £2 fine. Not surprisingly, many parents fail to re-register. You will have no problems getting a passport using the original birth certificate.

A baby's passport is exactly the same as an adult's passport apart from the fact that it does not carry the passport holder's signature. It does not show anything about the parents.

Is her name staying the same?
Order the passport now
No the parents' names are not on the passport

kisaki333 · 04/10/2022 02:30

Thank you all! Yes, her name stays the same, it's only ours that changes. I don't know why I was sure the parents would be shown on a baby's passport! Stupid of me to assume that. I'll get going on applying for her now.

I think (going back to my childhood) children were just listed on their parents' passports rather than having their own. But my son's passport has no mention of me or his dad on it.

I was going to say it might be tricky and annoying to fix later if your DC's name was going to change with your marriage, but as it's staying the same (if I understand correctly) just use the current birth certificate and order it now
