Land registry issue

Does anyone have any experience of how to deal with a freehold that was purchased years ago but never properly registered? The house was then legally transfered to me when I bought my ex out but it is still registered as a leasehold after a mistake by my solicitor (who is no longer practicing). I have contacted new solicitors but noone seems to know how to deal with it or how much it could cost me.

Happy to be corrected but I think your original solicitor will have handed their files over to another firm. The Law Society can assist you to track who now has your files www.lawsociety.org.uk/contact-or-visit-us/law-society-library/research-guides/how-to-trace-past-solicitors-and-law-firms

You may be able to get a copy of the deeds originally submitted to Land Registry www.gov.uk/get-information-about-property-and-land/copies-of-deeds

Once you have tracked down all the evidence you can contact Land Registry and they will provide advice on how to proceed www.gov.uk/guidance/contact-hm-land-registry
