Any solicitors out there !
What is the procedure when someone dies with no next of kin. Can a will be written so that solicitors are executors of the estate and also have to deal with funeral arrangements etc. Do they arrange everything once notified of a death.
Are they responsible for house clearance, and settling bills etc. How long would something like this take, is there a legal time frame, and who oversees that all is executed correctly and as speedily as possible
r re the will when there are no family beneficiaries
Sorry thats a bit muddled but you get the gist ! Any info welcome

Yes you can write a will appointing solicitors as executors and setting out funeral arrangements and arrangements for clearing house etc. They will charge for their services and time and are likely to appoint a house clearance firm.

There isn’t a timeframe and solicitors can work quite slowly but they will carry out your wishes.

Are you aware you don’t have to be NOK or related to be an executor? If you have beneficiaries they can be the executor or joint executor with solicitors.

Someone I knew with no family had a former colleague as executor. She felt honoured to be asked and was very scrupulous in doing it. He left a small bequest to an old friend and most of his estate to charity.

Yes, my great aunt chose to have her solicitors organise everything after she died, inc clearing the house, her cremation, and executing her will. They were very efficient

Thanks, its something that has been troubling me. I wouldnt ask friends to do this having seen the stress one of them was put under being executor for a relastive.

Yes they can, however they will charge a hefty amount. I think my parents solicitor wanted to charge £250 + VAT per hour. I got my dad to remove them as executor of his will!
