Potentially being blamed for damages to someone’s car that i didn’t cause ?

While driving on a tight country road at night i accidentally knocked another car at a slow speed as it was pulling out after moving to the side of the road to let me through.

I apologised greatly and gave the driver my phone number and asked them to call me so we could sought it out without the insurance company and they said they would.

They claimed i had pushed their car into the hedge on the other side of the road but drove off quickly before i could take any clear pictures of potential damage to any part of their car. I don’t believe the knock could have been nearly powerful enough to push them into the hedge and there is no damage to my car - not even paint transfer.

If they claim that I have caused more damage than I believe what should i do? I am a new driver and the last thing I want is for my insurance to sky rocket. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I had this years ago. There was ice and whole idiot driving thing on her behalf. I went into the back of her ( slid actually becuase of the ice ). No damage etc etc. both said we were okay.
First she told the police after that I left the scene of an accident ( I didn’t ). But the worst things was about a month later my insurance got in touch to say I had caused so much damage to her car it had bent the boot right in.
I hadn’t. She had obviously backed into something and was using me to pay for it. Sadly I wasn’t savvy enough at that point in my life to have taken a photo.I told the insurance people this. They said as I had no proof they were just going to settle.
To this day it still annoys me.

You report to your insurance and let them sort it.

I suspect it is in your terms and conditions to do this.
