do victims of serious crime offences need solicitors just to make sure they are being treated right by the police, chasing/checking up on things and making sure the victim gets all the support needed. say maybe the life/safety of the victim and family are in danger and they need to relocate- the solicitor might be able to push for more help and support from the police and the council to help with this.

They should have a liason officer within the police to deal with this.

I have had none and the police haven't mentioned anything like that. Although I know about this but didn't remember until I read your message. I don't know if its because myself and family of ethnic minority (I hate to even think or write that).

Do I call them to ask the detective in charge if the investigation for a liason officer?

In the most serious of crimes, there will be a family liaison officer. However, in the event of being a victim of any crime, you should have been signposted to support services.
