Can I open a bank account using just one last name if they have a hyphenated surname?

My dd is 12 and i want to open a bank account for her and get her a bank card. She has a hyphenated surname of mine and her dads names mine-dads. I only ever use my part though since she was a baby as I never wanted to hyphen it but was young and pressured. (Dads not involved but pops up now and again over the years) I've always just put dd my name and never had any problems with school or doctors/dentists etc. She knows her whole name and agrees she doesn't want the second part and has always said she will change it when she's 16. Can I open her a bank account using just one part of a hyphenated surname and the card only have that part or is it not possible without legally changing the name? Thanks

It will need to be opened with the name on documents she has so will be both. That said, my name is like your daughters and I too use one part only. My bank changed the embossed card name to reflect it for me. I know for Barclays they do the childrens accounts with the option to have the embossed card name to be their full name ie Title FirstName SecondName and this will allow her to drop one part. (It's what they done on mine even as an adult account when I banked with them until recently!)
